At least 1,200 lawyers will converge in Ilorin, Kwara State capital to discuss artificial intelligence(AI), law and religion matters.
The conference which is being organised by the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN) has “Artificial Intelligence (AI), Law, and Religion in Nigeria” as its theme and will be held between Friday and Sunday.
Dignitaries expected to grace the 16th Annual General Conference of MULAN include the governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun and the attorney general of the Federation and minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) , Professor Yusuf Olaolu Ali SAN among others.
Speaking at a news conference held at the conference room of the Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal, Ilorin, MULAN national president, Saidu Muhammed Tudun Wada, represented by the association’s second vice president, Barr. Tijajni Sanda, described the conference as a landmark event designed to interrogate the evolving intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), law, and religion in Nigeria.
He said the theme of the conference “ Artificial Intelligence, Law and Religion in Nigeria” is not only timely but deeply thought-provoking, as it reflects the need to navigate emerging technologies within the framework of legal ethics, constitutional rights, and religious values.
He said other personalities billed to attend the event include, the Chief Judge of Kwara State, Justice Abiodun Adebara, the Grand Khadi of Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal, Justice AbdulLateef Kamaldeen, the director general of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), Prof. Ibrahim Abikan, Prof. Yusuf Ali (SAN) and vice chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulWahab Egbewole(SAN).
He added that a former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, is expected to give the keynote speech and delve into the ethical implications and religious dimensions of emerging digital technologies in legal practice and governance.
He commended the support of Barr. Kehinde Eleja (SAN) who is the chairman of the conference planning committee towards a hitch- free and colourful event, MULAN President said the choice of Ilorin as host city was strategic.
