At least 300 indigent students in tertiary institutions from selected communities in Edu/Patigi/Moro local government areas of Kwara state have received scholarship grant to support their education.
Speaking at the Flag off of the distribution of the scholarship grant, held in Ilorin, with the theme “Dangers of Drug Abuse Among Students In Tertiary institutions” organised by Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies in collaboration with member representing, Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal constituency of Kwara state, Ahmed Adamu – Saba, the organisers said the distribution would be done in two phases.
Represented by his aide, Muhammed Salihu, the lawmaker said the Idea of the scholarship initiative is to support students whose parents can not afford to pay some of their bills in school.
Saba explained that some privileged students who are in school can also use the money to buy their books or pay their house rent.
He advised the students to ensure they use the one hundred thousand naira given to each of them for the purpose it is meant.
Saba urged them to shun drug abuse and other anti social vices inorder to live a quality life.
In his address the Acting Director- General Michael Imoudu National Institute For Labour Studies (MINILS), Pastor Ezekiel Ayorinde, represented by the Chief Procurement Officer of the Institute, Hassan Surajudeen said that the distribution of the grant is aimed at improving the educational standard of the students.
He advised them to invest the money wisely in their educational pursuit.
In their separate remarks some community leaders in Moro/Edu/Patigi local government areas , Muhammed Aliyu Labas and Mohammed Baba (Shonga ) commended the facilitator for the gesture.
They urged the beneficiaries to ensure they use the money for the purpose it is meant.
In his lecture themed “Dangers of Drug Abuse Among Students In Tertiary Institutions” the guest lecturer, Abdullahi Galadima said from the available records youths have the tendency of indulging in drug abuse due to peer pressure among other reasons.
He advised the youth to shun drug abuse and study hard to make their life better.
