Katsina State Government on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PPD), if elected, will enter into collaboration with credible investors to roll out tomatoes and sugar cane industrial processing facilities.

The initiative is to take advantage of the abundant food basket in Danja and other local government areas of the state to boost productivity and integrate production, processing and marketing of selected commodities to fight poverty, hunger and unemployment in the state.

The governorship candidate of Katsina PDP, Sen. Yakubu Danmarke Lado, unveiled the plan at  the party’s campaign rally on Saturday in Danja town where he was presented with bunch of sugar cane and two crates of tomatoes by the people.

Under the agriculture programme, he said, the state government, if given the mandate, will collaborate with investors and other stakeholders to rollout the industries in measures to transform the agricultural sector in the state.

According to him, Danja town would prove a strategic location for industries because of availability of the basic infrastructure such as electricity, road and labour.

To further boost irrigation farming in the area, the governorship hopeful pledged to complete the multi – billion naira Danja  project abandoned by the incumbent All Progressive Congress (APC) government.

He was optimistic that besides irrigation farming, the dam project would also boost potable water supply in the area.
