The public has been urged to strictly adhere to the teachings of the Holy Qur’an to promote peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding.

President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu, made the call during the grand finale of the Late Alhaja Abibat Mogaji Tinubu (AMT) Qur’anic Recitation Competition, held in Kano.

The AMT Qur’anic Recitation Competition, convened by the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Senator Bashir Garba Lado, serves as a living act of sadaqatul jariya (ongoing charity) in honor of the mother of the President Alhaja Abiabat.

Represented by his Special Assistant on Politics, Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim Masari, President Tinubu noted that the Holy Qur’an conveys messages of peace, unity, and compassion.

He emphasized that the event is not merely a competition, but a spiritual journey of dedication and discipline, as the Qur’an is the word of Allah.

In his remarks, the convener of the competition, Senator Bashir Garba Lado, highlighted that the late Alhaja Abibat Mogaji Tinubu left a lasting legacy, embodied in the person of President Bola Tinubu.

He stated that “a mother’s love never dies but lives on through prayers and sadaqatul jariya such as the Qur’anic memorization competition.”

“Mr. President, today’s event was organized to honor our great mother, who lived a life worthy of emulation,” Senator Lado added.

Also speaking, the Royal Father of the Day, the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk, emphasized the importance of honoring deceased parents through prayers and recitation of the Holy Qur’an.

He noted that the recitation is not only for the late Hajiya but for all, as there are blessings in reciting the Holy Qur’an.

The Emir commended Senator Lado for the initiative, highlighting that the competition also seeks to promote Qur’anic literacy and memorization, encourage spiritual growth in children, and honor the values of discipline, devotion, and excellence.

Maryam Abubakar from Dala Local Government Area and Ahmed Shuaibu representing Shanono Local Government Area emerged winners of the Juz’ 60 category of the AMT Qur’anic Recitation Competition.

They each received a house, a car, clothing materials, a digital Qur’an, Islamic books, and a cash prize of one million naira as rewards for their dedication and achievement.

The competition, which kicked off in April 2025, featured over 4,000 male and female contestants.
