The Katsina State Directorate of National Orientation Agency (NOA) has embarked on a special sensitization campaign on the importance of Measles Rubella Vaccine in the 19 Local Government areas identified as High Risk to Rubella measles disease in Katsina State.
The Local Governments are Katsina, Kaita, Jibiya, Batagarawa, Batsari, Safana, Kankara, Faskari, Sabuwa, Funtua and Musawa. Others are Rimi, Charanchi, Kankia, Mani, Mashi, Daura, Baure and Bindawa.
The aim of the campaign was to pave way towards the successful introduction of Measles Rubella Vaccine in Nigeria comes October this year.
According to NOA, the campaign is imperative considering the devastating effect of Measles Rubella to infants and children. The disease, the Agency said, causes blindness, deafness, mental impairment and even death to children of infected mothers.
NOA is therefore mobilizing community support as it is crucial to the success of the forthcoming MR vaccination campaign where children between the age of 9 month and 15 years will be immunized against the disease in Nigeria.
NOA also called on parents and caregivers in the state to ensure that their children are well immunized against the disease. The vaccine is safe and will be given free of charge.
