The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Katsina State Council, has distanced itself from the alleged endorsement of the Katsina Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in this Saturday’s general elections.
The State NLC, Comrade Hussaini Hamisu Yanduna, who made the assertion at a press conference in Katsina on Tuesday, enjoined workers and the general public to disregard such fabricated news.
His words: “The Congress is hereby dissociating itself from the fabricated and malicious news circulating on the social and other media outfits of endorsing the candidature of PDP gubernatorial candidate.
“This is a mere gimmick because the congress as an entity will not and has never endorsed or enforced a candidate for election to state workers. We recognize and respect individual rights in election matters.”
Comrade Yaduna also condemned a video clip of the chairman of Kankara Local Government directing the council workers to cast their votes and show their ballot papers to their superior officers for identification or risk disengagement from the service.
“The Congress calls on the chairman and his like minds to adhere to the provision of Section 39 / 40 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria in order not to cause mayhem before, during and after the elections” he warned.
Comrade Yanduna who charged workers in the state to remain discipline, patriotic and loyal in the discharge of their duties, also revealed what transpired during the visit of the gubernatorial candidate of PDP to the secretariat of the congress on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.
Hear him: “The congress equally granted such visit to all other gubernatorial candidates in the state at different times in the same venue at the state secretariat with the exception of PRP gubernatorial candidate, who also requested same and was given a date which was not convenient to him, therefore he couldn’t make it.
“During the interactive session with the PDP gubernatorial candidate, we made our position clear that the NLC’s candidate and indeed the workers’ is anyone that has the capacity, track record of leadership and commitment to workers and the entire state at heart. The same was communicated to gubernatorial candidate of other political parties in the state.”
