A Stakeholders’ Dialogue/Town Hall meeting on Local Government Development Plan was held today in Katsina, bringing together stakeholders from the Katsina North Senatorial zone to discuss the Local Government Development Plan.
The meeting, which was attended by Council Leaders, LGA Heads of Personnel, and CBOs from 12 LGAs, namely: Daura, Mashi, Mani, Maiadua, Kankia, Kusada, Ingawa, Dutsi, Bindawa, Sandamu, Zango, and Baure, aimed to strengthen governance at the local level through financial autonomy for Local Governments.
According to the Project Technical Coordinator, Yahaya Saidu Lugga, the event was part of a project on Strengthening Inclusive Governance, Local Development, and Accountability implemented by the organization, and the input provided by the stakeholders will be incorporated into the Katsina States LGAs Development Plan (2026-2030), which the organization is supporting the LGAs to develop and will serve as a strategic roadmap for development in the Local Governments, according to the Coordinator.
The meeting highlighted the commitment of stakeholders to promoting development at the local level. According to Umar A. Jibril, the Secretary of the organization, the input from stakeholders will be used to develop a comprehensive plan that will guide the development of the 34 Local Governments in Katsina State.
The event was declared open by the Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Development Management Board, represented by Mal Isyaku Mani, Program Manager of the Board, with other stakeholders commending the initiative and pledging to support the development of their Local Governments.
The Lead Facilitator, Dr. Bashir Ibrahim Kurfi, stressed the importance of leveraging the financial autonomy to develop the Local Governments in the State in his paper titled “Local Governance and Development Planning.
