The center for democracy and Development (CDD) Africa has organized a two-day training for journalists drawn from broadcast and print media working in katsina State.
The training held at the Katsina Guest-Inn conference hall was meant to enhance the capacity of the pool participants on professionalism.
The two day training for journalists on fact checking was organized by center for democracy and Development Africa.
The training was participated by over fouty journalists drawn from broadcast and print media as well as online media platforms.
The training dwelt on strengthening the capacity of the participants to promote accuracy in public communication.
Similarly the training highlighted the role of journalists towards changing the society through accurate reporting of events especially as its related to fact checking.
A resource person at the training, Aluko Ahmad, highlighted the role of media in preventing manipulation where the participants learnt the strategies for promoting and building public trust.
He dwelt on Fact-Checking and the need for journalists to always verify the source of their news item for public peace and development.
Aluko Ahmad who spoke on the rationale behind the training called on the participants to make judicious utilization of the knowledge acquired.
Another resource person Vateria Ogide carried the participants on practical demonstration on fact checking as well as verification processes and techniques.
The sessions highlighted the credibility of sources of news item through cross-check verifying images, videos, and documents.
The two day training rounds off with practical demonstration on how journalists cross check news item for credibility of reporting.
Some of the participants interviewed described the training as timely and commended the Center for Democracy and Development for the capacity building.
