The ancient city of Daura came alive as thousands of Hausa people from within Nigeria and across the world converged to celebrate the 10th edition of the International Hausa Day.
The colorful event drew dignitaries from far and near, including the Prime Minister of Niger Republic, Sultan of Damagaram, Emir of Daura, and a representative of the Emir of Katsina, among several others.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Prime Minister of Niger Republic, represented by the Governor of Zandar, Colonel Alhaji Masallachi Muhamadu Sani, described the Hausa Day celebration as a symbol of unity and brotherhood among Hausa people globally.
He emphasized the importance of culture as a binding force for development and peaceful coexistence.
Katsina State Governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Usman Abba Jayi, used the occasion to commiserate with communities in the state affected by recent security challenges.
He reassured the gathering of government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability across Katsina.
In his remarks, the Member representing Tudun Wada–Doguwa Federal Constituency, Sardaunan Kasar Hausa, Mai Tuta Alhaji Alhasan Ado Doguwa, disclosed that motions were being tabled at the National Assembly to restore and strengthen the traditional leadership system in Nigeria.
He noted that traditional rulers remain vital custodians of history, culture, and security intelligence in the country.
The Executive Director of the State History and Culture Bureau, Dr. Kabir Ali Masanawa, alongside the founder of Hausa Day, Alhaji Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari, expressed appreciation to individuals and organizations whose contributions ensured the success of the event.
The highpoint of the celebration featured rich displays of Hausa heritage, including traditional wrestling, blacksmithing, barbering, horse riding, and other cultural exhibitions that showcased the depth and beauty of Hausa civilization.
The International Hausa Day, held annually, continues to serve as a platform for strengthening cultural ties, promoting unity, and preserving the traditions of the Hausa people across the globe.
