The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Interior and member representing Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency of Katsina State, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed, has distributed N54,270,000 to 2,199 students from his constituency undergoing studies in various higher institutions across the country.
This is countained in a press statement signed by the Special Assistant on Media to the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Interior Sardauna Francis and made available to Katsina Mirror.
The whooping amount of money was disbursed to the beneficiaries on Saturday at Musawa Local Government Secretariat through the lawmaker’s Education Committee under the chairmanship of the former Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Tukur Ahmed Jikamshi.
Selected across the political wards of Musawa and Matazu Local Governments after vigorous screening by the committee, the beneficiaries are studying different courses at Universities, Colleges of Education and Polytechnics within and outside Katsina State.
1,029 students from universities were given N30,000 scholarship grant each, amounting to N30,870,000, while 1,170 students pursuing National Education Certificate (NCE) and National Diploma (ND) in Colleges of Education and Polytechnics, got N20,000 each, totaling N23,400,000.
The N54,270,000 scholarship grant given to the 2,199 students during the second phase of the Dujiman Katsina’s educational support, underscores his unwavering commitment to building the future of youths, which he believes, are the leaders of tomorrow with great potential.
Speaking during the disbursement exercise, Ahmed said the gesture aimed at supporting students of less privileged families to compete favourably with those from well-to-do homes in their quest to acquire tertiary education devoid of political affiliations.
“We are focusing our political ideology and programmes on building and empowering the youths to secure their future and the future of the society,” the Chairman, House Committee on Interior said while addressing the mammoth crowd.
He promised to concentrate and redouble efforts in ensuring a brighter future for the youths by providing opportunities in education, employment, business skills empowerment, agricultural programmes among other notable initiatives.
He, however, vowed to secure additional employment letters to 420 constituents across all the electoral wards of the Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency as part of his revolving measures to tackle unemployment and drive sustainable development in the constituency.
Recalled that the lawmaker had earlier secured Federal appointment slots for over 181 constituents into the Federal Teaching Hospitals, Federal Medical Centres, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Army, Nigeria Immigration Service and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
On the proposed 420 employment slots, Ahmed said “I will bring all the employment letters here (Musawa) for you to count them and ensure that they are upto 420. This is part of my unwavering commitment to address unemployment.”
The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Interior, further announced the distribution of 500 brand new motorcycles to youths in the constituency to alleviate their transportation difficulties.
Hon. Ahmed reiterated that he initially procured 350 motorcycles but decided to purchase additional 150 to accommodate more constituents, adding that the motorcycles will be distributed to the prospective beneficiaries in the next phase of his empowerment programme.
He pledged to remain focused on driving the constituency’s development and maintaining unity, stating that he would not be distracted from doing what is right for the constituents despite criticism from those he termed naysayers.
While noting that the naysayers anchored their activities on aversion, the lawmaker said as a democrat who believes in rule of law, harmonious coexistence and politics of decorum, he will continue to work for peace and sustainable development in the constituency.
In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of Musawa Local Government, Hon. Aliyu Idris Gingin, described the educational initiative as a developmental drive aimed at bringing democratic dividends closer to the rural dwellers.
He explained that the gesture will assuage the suffering of students and boost the state’s education landscape, adding that the educational drive of the Dujiman Katsina was in accordance with that of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda-led government.
