Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, attended the closing ceremony of the Renewed Hope International Horse Racing Derby held at the Daura Race Course.
The event, themed “Renewed Hope Daura 2026,” attracted competitors from Nigeria, the Republic of Niger, and Burkina Faso, promoting unity, cultural exchange, and the preservation of the region’s rich equestrian heritage.
The derby was organised by the Horse Racing Federation of Nigeria under the chairmanship of Alhaji Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata.
Several prestigious trophies were contested during the event, including those of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, the Sultan of Sokoto, the Emir of Daura, and Etsu of Nupe.
In the President’s Cup (Race No. 23 – Division IV, 1600m), the horse Ramadan, owned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, secured first position, winning a saloon car and trophy, while Lailatul Qadr, owned by SD Stable, finished second to claim ₦1,000,000.
In the Governor’s Cup, contested under Race No. 22 – Division II (Sudan Open, 2000m), the horse Badauri, owned by Speaker Nasir Yahaya Daura, emerged first, winning a saloon car and trophy. Zara, owned by Tajuddeen Dantata, came second to win ₦1,000,000, while Militao, owned by Speedy Stable, and Dan Zaki, owned by Speaker Nasir Yahaya Daura, finished third and fourth, earning ₦600,000 and ₦400,000 respectively.
Under the Emir of Daura Cup (Race No. 20 – Division V, 2000m), Lailatul Qadr, owned by Speedy Stable, took first place, winning a saloon car and trophy. Tahuna, owned by Ameer Stable, finished second, followed by Giran Allah, owned by Alhaji Saleh Jockey, and Mutaziz, owned by Speedy Stable, in third and fourth positions respectively.
Similarly, in the Sultan of Sokoto Cup (Race No. 21 – Division III, 2000m), Speedy II, owned by Speedy Stable, came first, winning a saloon car and trophy. Karab da Gari, owned by Hon. Speaker Nasir Yahaya Daura, finished second, while Zaki and Aluwo, both owned by SD Stable, came third and fourth respectively.
Across the races, first-place winners received a saloon car and trophy, second-place winners received ₦1 million, while third and fourth places earned ₦600,000 and ₦400,000 respectively. Other trophies contested included that of the Etsu Nupe.
The Renewed Hope International Horse Racing Derby further highlighted Katsina State’s longstanding equestrian traditions and its role in promoting cultural tourism and regional unity.
The event was attended by the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura; the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruq Umar; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; the Principal Private Secretary, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji; representatives from Niger and Burkina Faso; and other dignitaries.
