Katsina Police team guns down three suspected bandits, rescue kidnap victims

Operatives of Katsina state police command in collaboration with members of vigilante in Sabuwa Local Government Area have gunned down three suspected bandits and rescued kidnap victims at Duya village, Maibakko ward of the council who were mainly women.

The police explained that a gang of bandits in their hundreds  had stormed the village about 7.23 p.m on Friday where they kidnapped the victims.

The spokesman for the command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu who confirmed the incident, said the police operatives mobilised themselves and  some members of vigilante  to the village upon the receipt of the information on the attack.

Aliyu explained, “the Katsina Police Command, under the leadership of CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, has succeeded in thwarting a kidnapping attempt, rescuing all kidnapped victims, and neutralising three (3) suspected notorious bandits.

“On June 7, 2024, at about 7.23 p.m, information was received at the Sabuwa Divisional Police Headquarters that armed bandits in their numbers, wielding dangerous weapons, attacked Duya village, Maibakko ward, Sabuwa LGA and kidnapped a number of women.

“Upon receipt of the report, promptly, the DPO Sabuwa Divisional Headquarters, CSP Aliyu Mustapha, in collaboration with members of the vigilante, mobilised a team of operatives to the scene. Upon noticing the presence of the team, the bandits opened fire on the team, which the team responded gallantly and successfully thwarted the kidnapping attempt and rescued all the kidnapped victims.

“In the course of scanning the scene, the body of three (3) neutralised suspected bandits were recovered from the scene.”

The Command’s spokesman said the Commissioner of police, while commending the operatives for their exceptional display of bravery and gallantry, reiterated the command’s commitment towards ensuring the safety and security of the good people of the state.
