Reaffirms Commitment to Women Empowerment
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has restated his administration’s firm commitment to empowering women, noting that when women are supported, families and the larger society become stronger and more prosperous.
This is contained in a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, and made available to Katsina Mirror
According to the statement the Governor gave the assurance when he received members of the Coalition of Women Initiative Program at Government House, Katsina.
The delegation, led by the APC Women Leader for Katsina State and Chairman of the Coalition, Hajiya Binta Husaini Dangani, paid a sympathy visit to the Governor over the recent banditry attack at Gidan Mantau village in Malumfashi, as well as the accident he was involved in. They also used the visit to reaffirm their loyalty and support to his administration.
In his remarks, Governor Radda thanked Almighty Allah for preserving lives during the recent challenges and expressed gratitude to the women for their concern and solidarity. He described women as reliable partners in the development of society, recalling their unwavering dedication during the last elections.
“As the women leader requested 50 percent representation, I believe that is not too much to ask,” the Governor said. “Whatever a woman receives, she uses to support her family. Helping women is therefore a duty, because in empowering them, we are ultimately empowering society.”
The Governor went on to highlight ongoing interventions targeted at women. These include the Goat Rearing Program, which has empowered 10 women in each of the 361 wards of the state, and the Ramadan Support Program, which assisted women involved in small-scale businesses. He added that more initiatives are being implemented through the Ministry of Women Affairs.
Governor Radda also disclosed that Katsina State will soon roll out the Nigeria for Women Affinity Project, urging women to take the program seriously and participate actively.
“If women embrace this initiative and work together, by God’s grace, it will help us tackle the poverty affecting our communities. The project will be implemented across every ward in the state, and with Allah’s help, you will see its impact in transforming lives,” he assured.
He concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to fairness and inclusiveness in women-focused programs, while praying for Allah’s blessings upon the delegation and safe return to their homes.
In her address, Hajiya Binta Husaini Dangani—who also serves as Executive Director of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA)—explained that the coalition consists of women leaders from all 34 local government areas, as well as indigenous Nigerian women residing in Katsina. She said the coalition is committed to sensitizing women on government policies and programs.
She revealed that 1,050 women are currently undergoing training in different skills, while another 100 are benefiting from additional empowerment initiatives. According to her, many women across Katsina have already benefitted from various government programs.
Also speaking, the State APC Women Leader, Hajiya Jamila Salam, reaffirmed the loyalty of women to the present administration. She noted that the coalition has been holding meetings with women leaders at both local government and ward levels to further highlight the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment. She appealed to the Governor to ensure women are given 50 percent representation in government activities.
