Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, today paid a visit to the Kankia General Hospital, where he inspected the International Medical Corps (IMC) Stabilization Centre located within the Paediatrics Ward.

The Governor was warmly received by Dr. Olusegun Ojetola, a medical doctor with the IMC Stabilization Centre, alongside other hospital personnel, who guided him through the inspection.

During the visit, Governor Radda toured key sections of the Stabilization Centre, including the milk room, food store, and pharmacy. He also interacted with 15 caregivers present at the Centre, offering them support as encouragement.

The Governor further visited the Maternity Ward, where he met with about 20 patients, mostly expectant mothers, and extended support to them as well. He assured the patients that his administration will address the hospital’s recurring power outages by installing solar panels, and pledged that the facility would be upgraded with modern medical equipment to enhance service delivery.

Governor Radda was also briefed on the operations of the IMC Stabilization Centre, which provides treatment for children aged 0–59 months suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) with medical complications. The treatment process involves the use of essential drugs, F-75,F -100 therapeutic milk, and Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF).

Expressing satisfaction with the quality of interventions at the Centre, the Governor pledged to replicate the IMC Stabilization Centre model in other parts of Katsina State to strengthen healthcare for malnourished children with medical complications.

He commended the International Medical Corps, the European Union, and the medical personnel at Kankia General Hospital for their dedication to saving lives, assuring that his administration remains committed to improving healthcare delivery across the state.

Dr. Olusegun Ojetola thanked Governor Radda for the visit and for showing strong commitment to the health sector in Katsina. He said the Governor’s presence gives encouragement to medical workers and shows leadership that puts people’s wellbeing first.

He explained that the Stabilization Centre is part of the Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) Project, run by the International Medical Corps with funding from the European Union (ECHO). According to him, the project has helped reduce child deaths and improve nutrition in Katsina State.

Dr. Ojetola stressed the need for stronger partnership between the Katsina State Government and development partners so the programme can continue and expand. With more support and resources, he said, the Centres can reach more children, cut down malnutrition, and build stronger communities.

He assured that the International Medical Corps and its partners will keep working with the state government to improve child health and nutrition. He added that with Governor Radda leadership and steady investment in healthcare, Katsina is on the right path to better health for women and children.
