The Katsina State Police Command operatives have recovered 554 rustled animals, 2 AK 45 rifles as well as 1 pocket rifle in recent operations.
The Spokesman for the police command, DSP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the development in katsina on Tuesday.
He explained that the animals and the weapons were recently recovered from bandits after fierce gun battles with the police operatives.
His statement read “In line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun on enhanced proactive policing towards decimating activities of criminal elements, the Katsina Command under CP Bello Shehu has succeeded in foiling a cattle rustling attempt by suspected armed bandits and also recovered 2 AK-47s, 1 PKT rifle and rounds of live ammunition in the state.
“On February 6th, 2026, at 0010 hrs, information was received that some suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically, stormed Sabuwar Kasa village, Kafur LGA, Katsina State, and rustled herds of cows and escaped the scene before the arrival of security operatives.
” Upon receipt of the report, quickly, nearby divisions were notified. The DPO Malumfashi, having mobilised operatives, in collaboration with the military and members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC), successfully tracked and engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel. The hoodlums dispersed from the scene due to superior tactics and firepower. The team successfully recovered 554 rustled animals, comprising 290 cows and 264 sheep.
” Similarly, on February 8th, 2026, at about 1205 hrs, a joint team of operatives, comprising the police and members of the vigilante, attached to the Jibia division, while on intelligence-led patrols along Falale forest, Jibia LGA, successfully recovered 1 PKT, 2 AK 47 rifles, 2 magazines, and 8 7.62mm live ammunition neatly concealed, suspected to be hidden by suspected hoodlums.
” Investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the exhibits and identify those involved for further necessary action.”
The State Police Commissioner, Bello Shehu, commended the bravery and professionalism displayed by the officers involved in both operations,
He assured the public of the command’s commitment towards enhancing safety and security throughout the command.
