Katsina state has announced 15,February, 2025 for the state local government elections.

The Chairman of the Katsina state Independent Electoral Commission (KTSIEC), Lawal Faskari made the announcement  at a press conference in Katsina.

The press conference was attended by  representatives of political parties  and security operatives in the state.

He said the notice of the council election was being announced in accordance with relevant electoral laws.

Although the KTSIEC Chairman did not give details about the state fourthcoming council election, a total of 3, 187,988 electorates voted when a similar exercise was conducted in the state on 11, April, 2022.

The council election will also see to the election of 34 chairmen  and 361 councillors for the 34 local Government Areas of the state.

The KTSIEC Chairman declared at the Wednesday’s press conference”  It is my pleasure to welcome you this day, Wednesday 14th February, 2024 at the commission’s head office complex, and in compliance with section 197 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria( FRN) as amended and other relevant laws, to officially announce that Saturday 15th February, 2025 has been slated to conduct Local Government in the state for the chairmanship and councillorship . The notice will commence from today, 14th February, 2024 to 15th, February,2025 which gives 365 days as in accordance with section 28 of Electoral Act 2022 as amended.’’

Faskari added that all interested and qualified candidates from the registered political parties in the state are free to contest in the election, adding that only candidates sponsored by the registered political parties will be allowed to contest.

He declared “ The Commission therefore urged stakeholders ,particularly the political parties to comply and adhere to the laws and guidelines governing the conduct of the election in the state.”
