The Katsina State Police Command has foiled bandits’ attacks in Funtua and Musawa Local Government Areas, rescued one kidnapped victim, and recovered 15 rustled cows.
The Command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the development in a statement made public yesterday in Katsina.
He explained ” Today, 19th July, 2026, at about 2:00 am, a credible information was received at the Central Police Station Funtua, on the movement of suspected armed bandits with rustled animals attempting to cross the border between Funtua and Dandume Local Government Areas.
” Upon receipt of the intelligence, the DPO, CPS Funtua, immediately mobilised and led a team of operatives to the scene.
“On arrival, the bandits opened fire on the team. Responding decisively with superior firepower, the team successfully dispersed the bandits as they fled the scene into the nearby forest.
” While scanning the scene, the team rescued one kidnapped victim, later identified as Hafiza Rabiu, f, unharmed, and recovered seven (7) rustled cows. The rescued victim has been medically examined and reunited with her family.
” Similarly, on 17th July, 2026, at about 6:30 am, a distress call was received at the Musawa Division that suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, attacked Kuru Village via the Musawa Local Government Area and rustled cows.
” Quickly, the DPO Musawa, mobilised a team of operatives, in collaboration with members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) and responded to the scene. The team trailed the hoodlums to a nearby bush while attempting to escape. On sighting the team, the bandits opened fire. The team responded with a superior fire, forcing the bandits to abandon the rustled animals and flee the scene. Consequently, eight (8) cows were successfully recovered at the scene.
‘ Efforts are being sustained to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects. Further development will be communicated in due course, please.
