Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has commissioned six operational vehicles, a library, a hostel and an access road at Al-Qalam University, Katsina, as part of efforts to strengthen infrastructure and improve mobility and learning conditions within tertiary institutions in the state.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the university, was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nasiru Musa Yauri, members of the senior management, and students.
Speaking at the event, Governor Radda described the procurement of the vehicles as a clear demonstration of transparency, accountability and prudent management of resources by the university authorities.
“This is a very good testimony of transparency, accountability and effective management of resources. We are glad that through savings, the University was able to procure these vehicles for the movement of senior staff and students,” the Governor said.
Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Professor Nasiru Musa Yauri, explained that the Corolla cars and two buses were purchased from accumulated savings from the institution’s monthly overhead allocation, and not from any special capital release or major revenue source. He added that the project was the first to be commissioned from such internally generated savings.
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful, Governor Radda commissioned the six vehicles for the use of the University’s senior management and the two buses for students, praying for Allah’s blessings on the vehicles and the institution.
On the library, hostel and road projects, the Governor commended the University for constructing a modern library and a students’ hostel, and for honouring him by naming the library after him. He also commended the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) for the construction and rehabilitation of several kilometres of road within the University and its environs, noting that the remaining section was nearing completion.
He expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for supporting infrastructure development in educational institutions, which he said would enhance safety, ease of movement and a conducive learning environment.
The Vice-Chancellor and the University management further announced that the newly rehabilitated road would be named after Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura, a respected elder of Katsina State, in recognition of his contributions and standing in the society.
Governor Radda thanked the University for the honour and described the gesture as a mark of respect for elders and a symbol of unity.
“On behalf of myself, the Government and the people of Katsina State, I hereby commission this road named Sani Zangon Daura. May Almighty Allah bless the University and all those who use this facility,” the Governor declared.
Those in attendance included the Deputy Governor, Hon. Faruk Lawal, Abdullahi Aliyu (General) Member of the House of Representatives Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency, and other top government officials.
