Governor Radda Pledges Support for Youths and Sports Development in Katsina State

  • Kurfi LGA Wins 2025 Governor’s Cup

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development, sports, and community engagement across the state.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Katsina State Governor’s Cup Football Competition for Inter-Local Governments at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina,

“Our young people are our future. Providing them with opportunities to showcase their talent, build discipline, and develop teamwork is central to our administration’s vision.” Governor Radda stated.

The final, themed “Governor’s Cup 2025 – Youth, Sports, and Development,” saw Malumfashi LGA face off against Kurfi LGA in a thrilling match that highlighted the skill, determination, and sportsmanship of Katsina State’s youth.

Governor Radda commended the participating local governments for their dedication and applauded the youth for their commitment.

“I am proud of every player, coach, and local government that contributed to this competition. This is the kind of initiative that nurtures talent and strengthens communities,” he said.

He reiterated his administration’s pledge to support sports development across Katsina State.

“We will continue to invest in grassroots sports, encourage more youth participation, and ensure that initiatives like the Governor’s Cup thrive across the state,” the governor added.

The competition, organized by the Katsina State Football Association under the chairmanship of Engr. Surajo Yazeed Abukur, Commissioner, Ministry of Youths and Sports Development.

The competition has been acclaimed as the best since the creation of the state. It was revived under Governor Radda’s leadership to promote youth engagement through sports.

After a 0–0 draw in regular time, the championship was decided through a penalty shootout. Kurfi LGA missed its first penalty, while Malumfashi LGA missed its third.

In the decisive kick, a Malumfashi player’s shot was saved by Kurfi’s goalkeeper, crowning Kurfi LGA as the 2025 Governor’s Cup Champions.

The closing ceremony drew top government officials, including Hon. Faruk Lawal Jobe, Deputy Governor; Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, Speaker of the State House of Assembly; Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, Chief of Staff to the Governor; local government chairmen; members of the State Executive Council; sports officials; team coaches and players; and a large gathering of football fans from across Katsina State.
