*Says recommendations key solving security problems in Katsina, N/W and Nigeria
Katsina State Government has allayed fears that the report of the judicial commission of inquiry into last month’s killings of over 100 persons in Bakori and Kankara Local Government Areas of the state would be swept under the carpet.
The State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, disclosed this on Thursday while receiving the report of the Justice Abbas Bawale led 11 – man panel in Government House Katsina.
Governor Masari assured that the government would come up with a white paper on the report to help in reducing such attacks significantly in the state, the northwest geo-political zone and the country.
He pledged urgent implementation of the report, adding that the government will set up a committee to look into it and fashion out actionable recommendations within next week for speedy action, even as he assured that normalcy had returned in the affected communities.
The governor, who described the Bakori/Kankara massacre as an unfortunate and unique situation, noted that the perpetrators were well organized criminals on revenge mission that was unconnected to rustling of animals or kidnapping.
“This case is unique. I have had the opportunity of going through the executive summary of the report and I have learnt something I didn’t know before,” he said.
Earlier, the chairman of the commission, Justice Abbas Bawale, expressed confidence that Katsina State, its neighbours and federal government would find the recommendations in the report useful in addressing the menace of such gunmen.
