No fewer than three passengers have lost their lives in a road accident which occurred at Yar’ gamji, a few kilometres from Katsina State capital, along Katsina – Dutsinma Road.

The State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Ibrahim Maiyaki Bazama, who confirmed the crash to Katsina Mirror yesterday, said the accident involved Katsina State Transport Authority (KTSTA) Toyota Haice bus which collided with a Sharon Volkswagen bus around 8.30am on Tuesday, killing three of the occupants – one male and two female passengers – on the spot.

He said 24 male, three female passengers including two children -a boy and a girl – were involved in the accident, adding that the rescue team of the FRSC evacuated the corpses and those who sustained various degrees of injuries to Katsina General Hospital.

The FRSC Sector Commander said the KTSTA bus was coming from Katsina while the other bus was on the way to the city.

He said the accident was caused by over – speeding and wrongful overtaking the drivers.

Bemoaning the fatal crash, Bazama cautioned motorists to avoid over – speeding and observe all traffic regulations to escape early grave.

“My advice to motorists is to avoid over – speeding; let them kill speed before speed kills them.

“Secondly, I want to encourage owners of vehicles, particularly commercial vehicles, to install speed limiting device; it will reduce over – speeding by drivers and impact as a result of crash as well as the severity of injuries and of course deaths,” Bazama said.
