Operatives of Katsina police command have arrested 188 suspects in the on going efforts to make the state crime free.
The Command’s Spokesman, DSP Abubakar Aliyu made the revelation in katsina while reeling out its achievements in March.
Aliyu who addressed the press on behalf of the State Police Commissioner,Ali Fage, on Monday,said the suspects were arrested in March for various offences.
He gave the breakdown of the arrest to include” 14 suspected armed robbers;
2 gunrunners; 1 cattle rustler; 5 informants to bandits; 14 for culpable homicide; 20 rapists and
22 persons involved in illicit drug peddling.”
It was also revealed that 98 of the 188 cases had been charged to court for prosecution.
The Command also in March,recovered some exhibits including weapons.
Aliyu revealed “We recovered 7 firearms, including 2 PKT rifles, 2 AK 47, 3 locally fabricated guns, 2 ammunition belts, and 974 rounds of live ammunition. We also recovered 30 rustled animals and 5 motorcycles used for criminal operations, among other exhibits. “
The Command’s spokesman said 12 kidnapped victims were also rescued during the period in review, adding they had been reunited with their families after proper medical examination.
He added” To deny criminals freedom of action, the command conducted targeted raids in identified criminal black spots across the command. We heightened our vigilance and security across strategic locations, including major highways. Also, community-policing engagements were held in communities to enhance public trust and intelligence flow.”
The Command’s spokesman said its operatives would not relent despite its achievements in March.
He solicited the continued cooperation of Katsina residents and other stakeholders so that the state would be rid of crimes.
