Former Kano Pillars, Heartland United and Lobi Stars defender, Chinedu Ozor, has reportedly died after collapsing during a football match in Katsina State on Tuesday.
Ozor, who was recently unveiled as a new signing by Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Katsina United, reportedly collapsed in the early minutes of a pre-season friendly against Niger Tornadoes.
Multiple reports said the incident occurred about 10 to 13 minutes after the match began at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
According to the reports, the 30-year-old defender suddenly collapsed on the pitch, prompting efforts by the club’s medical personnel to revive him.
He was subsequently rushed to a hospital for further medical attention but was reportedly pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The sudden death has thrown Katsina United, his teammates, club officials and supporters into mourning.
Ozor had only recently joined Katsina United during the ongoing transfer window after previously playing for clubs including Heartland United, Lobi Stars and Kano Pillars.
The circumstances surrounding his death have not been officially disclosed.
Katsina United is is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
