Conflict Sensitive Journalism for Mass Communication Students of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic

A one day Sensitization on Conflict Sensitive Journalism for Students of Mass Communication Department of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic has been organized.

The sensitization organized by katsina State Forum of Search for Common Ground journalists was held at the conference hall of the department.

One of the organisers of the event Aminu Musa Bukar was there for Katsina Mirror and compiled this story.

The One day Sensitization on Conflict Sensitive Journalism for Mass Communication Students of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic organized by Katsina State Forum of Search for Common Ground journalists was participated by officials of the department and other stakeholders.

The Sensitization is on Nigeria and Benin Border communities peace Initiative project for enhancing collaboration for peace and security in Katsina, Zamfara, Kwara, Kebbi and and Niger states.

The event was organized to update the knowledge of the participants on Do’s and Don’ts particularly on conflict reporting to maintain peace and stability in the society.

It was also meant to enlighten the students to adhere strictly to the ethics of journalism in reporting conflicts and other reportage to ensure conflicts free society.

Similarly, the event also served as a forum in which the stakeholders share ideas on how conflicts reporting base on journalism ethics to improve peace and security in Nigeria And Benin border communities.

During the event, one of the organisers of the event Tijjani Ibrahim presented a paper on Conflict for Peace Reconciliation while Hamidu Sabo delivered a paper on Peace Building Reporting.

The Head of Mass Communication Department Hassan Usman katsina Polytechnic, Muhammad Bello Sada, described the event as another landmark towards mitigating some challenges in reporting conflicts and urged the students to pay more attention to what they would be taught for peace to reign in the society.

Muhammad Bello Sada emphasised the need for the students to adhere strictly to journalism ethnics for more development of the pen profession.

One of the team leaders of the forum Tijjani Ibrahim said the project is targeted at the frontline states affected by security challenges for peace and stability to reign.

Tijjani Ibrahim added that the project also focus on other things including empowering communities through training on Conflict Sensitivity and called for more support from stakeholders to achieve the set objectives.

Question and answers by the participants on how to handle Conflict reporting was among the highlight of the event.
