Bandits flee as katsina police rescue motorist in gun duel

Operatives of Katsina police command on Tuesday evening rescued a motorist from bandits’ attack after a fierce gun duel.

According to the police,the incident occurred along Baure village road in Kankara Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that the police divisional headquarters in kankara, around 6.30 p.m on that day received a report that the bandits had attacked the motorist ( Names not disclosed ) along the road.

The DPO in the area subsequently led a team of other operatives to the scene where they engaged the bandits in a ” fierce gun battle”,before rescuing the motorist.

The spokesman for the state police command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the development on Wednesday.

He said” On March 5, 2024, at about 6.30 p.m, a report was received at the Kankara Divisional Headquarters that some suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, attacked a motorist along Baure village road in Kankara Local Government Area with intent to kidnap him.

“Upon receipt of the report, promptly, the DPO Kankara, CSP Hassan Musa mobilised a team of operatives and responded to the scene, where they engaged the suspected bandits in a fierce gun duel. The team successfully foiled the kidnapping attempt, rescued the victim, and recovered one operational motorcycle from the bandits. Efforts are on to arrest fleeing suspects.”

The Command enjoined residents in the area to report anybody seen with a bullet wound, as some of the suspects reportedly escaped the scene with gunshot injuries.

The state Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Musa also commended the operatives for what he described as “outstanding displays of bravery, dedication, and professionalism”.

He urged Katsina residents to continue to provide the command and other security agencies in the state with timely information on suspected criminal activity to enable the command and other security agencies take swift and decisive action against any recalcitrant criminal in the state.

The Commissioner further reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the protection of the lives and property of people of the state under his stewardship.
