Katsina State has announced plans to establish 38 consumer shops in the 34 local government areas of the state.

This initiative, dubbed ‘Rumbin Sauki’, was revealed as part of the resolutions from the 10th regular state executive council meeting.

A statement by Governor Dikko Radda’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed revealed that

Engineer Yakubu Nuhu Danja, Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Economy, disclosed that the state government had finalized arrangements to set up one consumer shop in each of the 34 local government areas.

According to him, Katsina State capital will receive two extra shops, while Daura and Funtua will each get one additional shop, bringing the total to 38.

He said “this strategic distribution takes into account the larger populations and higher convergence of people in these urban centres”.

The Special Adviser added that ‘Rumbin Sauki’ shops are designed to sell essential commodities and food items at subsidized prices, directly addressing the rising cost of living faced by residents.

“This measure is our response to alleviate the suffering of our people due to global economic challenges and the increasing cost of food items,” Engineer Danja stated.

Mohammad also said that in a show of commitment to the initiative, Governor Radda recently commissioned a ‘Kantin Sauki’ store in Jigawa State on October 5, 2024.

He  said that during the visit, the Governor expressed his intention to replicate the same model in Katsina State.

The state government also disclosed that these shops will be strategically located in suitable areas within each local government to ensure easy access for all residents.

The Special Adviser added there are plans to gradually expand the initiative to cover all 361 electoral wards across the state to bring about economic relief.

Governor Radda reiterates his vision of providing sustainable solutions to the economic challenges faced by the people of Katsina State.

He declared  “By bringing subsidized essential goods to the people’s doorstep, the government aims to ease the financial strain on households and improve the overall quality of life in the state.”
