Security forces have recorded a successful operation against suspected bandits and terrorists operating within the Ginchawa, Fafu, and Matazu forests in Katsina State.
According to sources, troops of the 8 Division Strike Force, operating under Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma, conducted a raid on suspected criminal hideouts in the early hours of June 22, 2026.
The operation reportedly led to a prolonged exchange of gunfire between troops and the armed groups. Security officials said the troops maintained pressure throughout the engagement, forcing the suspects to retreat from their positions.
Military sources further stated that several suspected bandit leaders were neutralized during follow-up pursuit operations. Following the clash, troops carried out a search of the area and recovered two PKT machine guns, one AK-47 rifle with magazines, three motorcycles, two mobile phones, communication radios, assorted ammunition, and a number of rustled livestock, among other items.
No casualties or equipment losses were reported among the troops, according to the information gathered by this medium.
Security forces said follow-up operations are ongoing to track down fleeing suspects and prevent criminal elements from regrouping in nearby forests and enclaves.
