Operatives of the Katsina State police command have burst a syndicate that specialises in snatching motorcycles in the state.
According to the command, three members of the syndicate were arrested in a recent police operation.
The spokesman for the command, DSP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the development in a statement made public.
He added that the command operatives had also recently arrested some armed robbers who used to attack people and snatch smart phones and personal belongings from them.
Aliyu revealed ” The Katsina State Command has succeeded in arresting two (2) suspected notorious armed robbers who specialise in attacking and robbing unsuspecting members of the public of their belongings, particularly mobile phones.
“On the 12th of June, 2025, based on a tip-off, the suspects, ages 26 and 18, were successfully arrested, and upon instant search, one iPhone 12, black colour, valued at five hundred and fifty thousand naira (₦550,000.00), Oppo, value not yet ascertained, and one sharp cutlass were recovered from their possession.
” During the investigation, two (2) victims came forward and identified the suspects as their attackers. The suspects confessed to the commission of the offence and mentioned one of their accomplices currently at large.
” Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspect as the investigation proceeds.
” Similarly, on June 12th, 2025, at about 1700 hrs, the command successfully burst a 3-man syndicate of notorious motorcycle thieves following the receipt of a distress call at the Sabon Gari Division on their nefarious activities and were arrested while attempting to steal a motorcycle at Barhim roundabout, Katsina.
” The suspects specialise in drugging unsuspecting commercial motorcycle riders by offering them drinks laced with intoxicants, rendering them unconscious, before making off with their motorcycles.
” Upon instant search, four (4) empty motorcycle sales receipts, two (2) fabricated motorcycle keys, and liquid suspected to be intoxicants were recovered in their possession.
” During the investigation, suspects confessed to the commission of the offence and would soon be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.”
Aliyu added that the state Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, while commending the operatives for their prompt response and a job well done, urged the general public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities to the command for decisive action against criminal activities.
