Police in gun battle with cattle rustlers, recover ten cows

Operatives of Katsina State Police Command have recovered ten cows aftermath fierce gun duel with cattle rustlers.

The spokesman for the Command, DSP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the incident on Tuesday.

His words ‘ The Katsina State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Ali Umar Fage, has successfully foiled a cattle rustling incident at Bagwayawa Village in Kafur Local Government Area (LGA).

” On July 6, 2026, at about 1:15 AM, a distress call was received at the Kafur Division that suspected armed bandits, wielding dangerous weapons, had attacked Bagwayawa Village and rustled a number of cattle.

” Upon receipt of the report, the DPO promptly mobilized a team of operational assets to the scene. The team strategically blocked the bandits’ escape routes and engaged them in a fierce gun duel.

” Overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the team of operatives, the bandits fled the scene into the nearby forest, abandoning the rustled animals.

” The operatives successfully recovered ten (10) cows, which are currently being processed for return to their rightful owners.

” Measures have been put in place and efforts are being sustained to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects. Further developments will be communicated in due course.”

Aliyu added that the Commissioner of Police commended the swift response and gallantry of the operatives.

He reassured Katsina residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to decimating crime and criminality across Katsina.

” Members of the public are further urged to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information to enable prompt, decisive action against criminal elements”, the statement added.
