At least, three people were killed while twenty -eight others were rescued in two separate operations by police in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina state.
The spokesman for the Katsina state police command, DSP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the development.
His statement on the incident made public on Wednesday reads, “As part of the command’s intensified efforts in the fight against kidnapping and banditry in the state, the command under the able leadership of CP Bello Shehu, has succeeded in foiling two (2) kidnap attempts at Sabuwa LGA, Katsina State, and rescued twenty-eight (28) kidnapped victims.
” On July 29th, 2025, at about 0924 hrs, a distress call was received from a good Samaritan that some suspected armed bandits armed with dangerous weapons have blocked the Sabuwa to Kaya road, by Inno Junction, Sabuwa LGA, Katsina State, kidnapping about fourteen (14) people.
” Upon receipt of the report, promptly, the DPO mobilised operatives and responded to the scene. A gun battle ensued, and the kidnappers fled the scene due to superior tactics and firepower from police operatives. The team successfully rescued all fourteen (14) kidnapped victims unhurt. Regrettably, the bandits shot and killed one Abba, m, age 27, of Funtua town, Funtua LGA.
” Similarly, on July 28, 2025, at about 2327 hrs, a distress call was received at Sabuwa Division that suspected armed bandits armed with dangerous weapons attacked Zagaizagi village, Sabuwa LGA, Katsina State, kidnapping some residents.
” Quickly, the DPO mobilised and responded to the scene, engaging the bandits in a gun duel, and foiled the attack. The team successfully rescued fourteen (14) kidnapped victims and recovered two (2) rustled cows. Regrettably, the bandits shot and killed two ) persons during the attack.
“Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects.
” The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, while commending the operatives for the exceptional act of valour, called on members of the public to continue to support the command as well as all security agencies in the state with accurate and timely information for prompt and decisive action against all criminal elements in the state.
“He further reaffirmed the commitment of the command towards protection of lives and property throughout the state.”
