World Radio Day Celebration

The Katsina State World Radio Day Committee says plans are on top gear to celebrate the 7th edition of the World Radio Day in Katsina State.

World Radio Day Committee Katsina State, Comrade Aminu Musa Bukar and made available to our news room.

According to the statement the event is scheduled to hold on Friday, 13th February 2026, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Old KTTV, Kofar Kaura New Layout, Katsina.

Comrade Aminu Musa Bukar further stated that this 2026 celebration will be marked under the global theme “Radio and Artificial Intelligence: AI as a Tool, Not a Voice.”

The event aims to highlight the relevance of radio broadcasting in the digital age and examine the role of artificial intelligence as a supportive tool rather than a replacement for human voices in radio practice.

It explained that the celebration will be conducted in three major segments:
The first segment will feature the opening ceremony and a public lecture to be delivered by Dr. Samaila Balarabe of the Department of Mass Communication, Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic (HUK Poly). The lecture will focus on the theme “Radio and Artificial Intelligence: AI as a Tool, Not a Voice.”

Also the paper will be discussed by Dr. Bashir Ibrahim Kurfi, also from HUK Poly. This session will further include a students’ debate on the topic “Radio is Better than Social Media,” as well as a quiz competition for radio fans.

The second segment, scheduled for the afternoon, will see members of the World Radio Day Committee embark on project monitoring of selected projects executed by the Katsina State Government, including visitations to some radio stations and relevant government offices.

The third segment, which will take place at night, will be a dinner and award presentation ceremony, where awards will be presented to the Best Media Staff of 2025, as nominated and selected by their respective media organizations.

The Keynote Address at the event will be delivered by the Executive Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency Malam Dikko Umar Radda, PhD, CON, while the District Head of Katare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, will serve as the Father of the Day.

Members of the media, stakeholders in the broadcast industry, government officials, academics, students, and the general public are warmly invited to participate in this year’s celebration.
