World Elder Abuse Awareness Day: Members commends Companion FM, state government for support

The Katsina State Chapter of the Chairperson Coalition of the Society for the Rights of Older Persons in Nigeria has commended the efforts of Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda towards improving the welfare of older persons in the state.

The Chairperson of the coalition, Madam Gloria Okon, gave the commendation while leading members of the association on a visit to Radio Nigeria Companion FM Katsina to commemorate the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Madam Gloria Okon stated that Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda has implemented several programmes aimed at improving the lives of older persons in the state, particularly the Kachia Programme, which provides free healthcare services to elderly people.

She appealed to the Katsina State House of Assembly to enact laws that would further enhance the welfare and protection of older persons in the state.

Madam Gloria Okon also appreciated the efforts of Radio Nigeria Companion FM Katsina for its role in educating and enlightening the public on issues affecting older persons and their welfare.

One of the beneficiaries of the Kachia Programme in Katsina State, Mr. Moses Ogah, commended the state government for the initiative, noting that he had greatly benefited from it.

Also speaking, Malama Rabi Muntari of Kofar Sauri urged people, especially younger generations, to show respect and care for older persons, emphasizing that everyone would one day attain old age.

It could be recalled that the United Nations set aside June 15 every year to mark the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, aimed at promoting the rights and wellbeing of older persons.
