NUJ@70: CELEBRATION BY NUJ KATSINA

Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State has commended the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for its vital contributions toward the growth and development of Nigeria.

The Governor made this known during a special lecture and get-together held in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the NUJ, organized by the Katsina State Council of the Union.

The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr. Salisu Bala Zango, congratulated the NUJ for reaching the milestone of 70 years of existence and service to the nation.

He urged members of the pen profession to remain steadfast in promoting peace, unity, and progress through responsible journalism, adding that the media plays a critical role in shaping public opinion and strengthening democratic values.

In a goodwill message, the National President of the NUJ, Comrade Alhasan Yahaya Abdullahi represented by the Zonal Secretary of Zone A, Comrade Abdulrazak Bello Kaura applauded the Katsina State Council for organizing the memorable event.

He stressed the importance of continuous engagement between journalists and stakeholders in national development.

Also addressing the gathering, the Kanwan Katsina, District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, who served as the chairman of the occasion and patron of the union, commended the NUJ for its resilience over the decades.

He expressed gratitude to the national leadership of NUJ for selecting him as one of the recipients of the Award of Excellence during the event.

The highlight of the ceremony included a keynote paper presentation by Dr. Sama’ila Balarabe of the Department of Mass Communication, Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, titled “NUJ at Seventy: A Historical Perception.

The paper traced the history, achievements, and challenges of the union over the years.

The state Chairman of the Union Comrade Tukur Hassan Dan-Ali who spoke extensively on the role played by the Union since before and post independent of Nigeria.

Other speakers at the event included former NUJ state chairmen, general managers of media organizations, and other media veterans who all paid tribute to the union’s journey and its significant impact.

The celebration also featured musical performances, showcasing the talents of local artists and adding color to the occasion.
