*As Katsina police read Riot Act to politicians

Emir of Katsina, Dr. Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, has admonished political actors and gladiators to eschew ‘do or die politics’ in this Saturday’s Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.

The royal father, who spoke during political stakeholders meeting with the Katsina State House of Assembly candidates in Katsina on Friday, warned that any breach of the sanity of sanity in the electoral process would inflict sufferings on the public.

Dr. Kabir, represented by Durbi Katsina, District Head of Mani, Alhaji Babani Isah, urged politicians to check their desperation and allow sanity to prevail in the interest of all.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police deployed to Katsina State Command for the elections, Yusuf Akeem, read the riot act to the political actors, saying any person bent on undermining the elections will be tackled decisively by security agencies.

“The security agencies will not fold their arms while some unscrupulous persons, under whichever guise, will try to truncate the relative peace being enjoyed in the state,” he said.

The police and other security agencies, he assured, would be neutral and non-partisan in the elections even as he admonished the politicians to play politics with decorum and eschew bitterness.

“I urge you to follow legally approved process and procedures in seeking redress rather than resorting to acts capable of causing breach of peace,” the CP warned.

In a goodwill message, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Prof. Yahaya Ibrahim Makarfi, further caution against anarchy or lawlessness over the elections, while soliciting the continued cooperation of all stakeholders for the success on the ongoing electoral process.

Present at the meeting include the second Commissioner of Police deployed to the state for the polls, Godwin Abolor; the State Commander of NDLEA, Mohammed Bashir Ibrahim, and the chairman of the state chapter Inter-Party Advisory Council, Ibrahim Tukur Saude.
