Federal Government has vowed to leave no stone unturned in ensuring the result of the long overdue census is acceptable to Nigerians and meets international best standards.

Recalls that the last National Population Census was held in 2016, that is 17 years ago.

Federal Commissioner representing Katsina State in the National Population Commission, Engr. Bala Almu Banye, disclosed this yesterday at the inauguration of the state census publicity committee held in Katsina.

Banye, who doubles as the co – chairman of committee, noted that the event marked another milestone in the commission’s journey towards accurate headcount in 2023 to generate evidence based demographic data for development planning and critical interventions.

He said the overarching vision of the 2023 census is to provide not only reliable and acceptable census data but also an inclusive and user – friendly data that will be used by all segments of the society.

His words: “Therefore, the commission will deploy full digital technology in the conduct of the census.”

This aspiration, according to him, informed the methodology and quality of preparations for the census in the last few years.

He was elated that the key cornerstone of upcoming census, Enumeration Area Demarcation, for effective and easy coverage by enumerators within the census period was undertaken most professionally using GIS and CSpro software.

“The NPC is irrevocably committed to ensuring that everything about 2023 census is done rightly and professionally. We have the clear vision, commitment and capacity to deliver on this historic mandate,” he added.

Inaugurating the committee, the State Governor, Aminu Bello Mssari, represented by his Deputy, Mannir Yakubu, who is also the chairman of the committee, said in line with modalities adopted by the Federal Government to conduct the census digitally, the state government constituted two committees to coordinate the conduct of the exercise.

Governor Masari said the State Population Census Security and logistics Committee and the State Population Census Publicity Committee had been mandated to deliberate, strategize and sensitize citizens on the conduct of the exercise.

“It is my observation that members of this committee were carefully selected based on professionalism and experience and therefore, I have no doubt that you would carry out the assignment to the best of your ability and in the best interest of the state,” he explained.
