Organised labour leaders in Katsina State have praised the state government’ measures to prevent teeming commuters in the state from transporters’ raw deal.

The State Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), comrade Hussaini Hamisu Yanduna, gave the reaction of the labour movement to the hike in fuel price and the state government’s palliatives at the end of the state executive council meeting of the union in Katsina.

While supporting Governor Dikko Umar Radda for reaching out quickly to the union and other key stakeholders towards addressing part of the challenges facing the residents of the state, Yanduna hailed the governor for directing the Katsina State Transport Authority, KTSTA, to maintain its existing fares to curb  the hardship occasioned by the new pump price on commuters.

“Of course, we met with the Governor of Katsina State and he appealed to us to see how we can help the situation and we assured him that we will do the best to see that there are no rancour and chaos.

“I want to appreciate His Excellency because, as part of his commitment to the betterment of the people of the state, he called a meeting with KTSTA and he directed it to make sure it didn’t increase intrastate transport fares.

“This is highly commendable; he has demonstrated high commitment to the welfare of his people and that is what we like and expect from a good leader, we commend him seriously,” he declared.

On fuel subsidy removal, the Katsina NLC chieftain said workers in the state deliberated and agreed to abide by the decision of the national Secretariat of the union on the matter.

“I want the good people and workers of the state to remain steadfast  and support the NLC; whatever we are going to do, is for the good of the populace,” he pledged.

Prior to the court suspension of the planned June 6, 2023, nationwide strike and protest of the organised labour, the state labour leaders had perfected plans to mobilize all affiliates of the NLC to withdraw their services, checks by Katsina Mirror revealed.
