Herbalist severes baby’s head at child birth as katsina police arrest several suspects for various offences

The Katsina police command has arrested a 55- year old herbalist, Ahmadu Usman of Farfari village , Batagarawa Local Government Area of the state for alleged homicide. 

According to the command, Usman was arrested on 16, April, 2024, over the death of a baby during child birth.

The Command’s spokesman ASP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the incident at a press conference held  at the Katsina police command headquarters where suspects of various crimes who were recently arrested were paraded.

Aliyu explained: “On April 16, 2024, at about 5 p.m, the command succeeded in arresting one Ahmadu Usman, ‘m’, 55 years old, of Farfari village via Batagarawa LGA, Katsina state, in connection with a suspected case of culpable homicide.

“On April 1, 2024, at about 8 a.m, one Rahinatu Hassan, ‘f’, 32 years old, from Gyanke village via Batagarawa LGA, who was heavily pregnant was in labour and having difficulties delivering the baby. Hence, the services of the suspect were employed to assist the woman in safe delivery; unfortunately, the suspect, knowing fully well that he is not a trained midwife, forcefully dragged the baby out of the womb with the head severed from the body.

“Upon receipt of the report, promptly, detectives were dispatched to the scene; the woman was rushed to the hospital for medical attention, and the suspect was subsequently arrested. During the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence. The investigation is still ongoing.”

The police also paraded several suspects  for various offences including manslaughter, culpable homicide arson and rape.

The Command’s spokesman gave further details on  the suspects arrest thus:”

On April 10, 2024, at about 2 p.m, based on a tip-off, the command succeeded in arresting one Surajo Magaji, 35 years old, of Makwalla Quarters in Danja Township, Danja Local Government Area, Katsina state in connection with a suspected case of arson and the killing of a five-year-old boy.

“Nemesis caught up with the suspect when he was caught by the complainant while trespassing on his house at about 3 a.m, and when questioned, he could not give a satisfactory account of his action, hence, his arrest.

“During the course of an extensive investigation, it was revealed that the suspect was indeed suspected to be in connection with the killing and dumping of the complainant’s five-year-old son into a well sometime in the year 2023 and had several unsuccessful attempts to set the complainant’s house ablaze. The suspect confessed to the commission of the offenses and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

“On April 19, 2024, at about 1.15 p.m, the command succeeded in arresting the duo of (1) one Usman Rabi’u, m, age 26, of Kofar Marusa Quarters, Katsina, and (2) one Shamsu Shu’aibu, m, age 30, of Doro village, Bindawa LGA, Katsina State, in connection with a suspected case of kidnapping of a five-year-old boy.

“The fact of the case is that on April 19, 2024, a report was received at the Bindawa Divisional Police Headquarters through one Lawal Yusuf, ‘m’, of Doro village, Bindawa Local Government Area of Katsina state, that his five-year-old son by name Yahaya Lawal of the same address went missing the previous day, April 18, 2024, at about 5 p.m and all efforts made to trace his whereabouts proved abortive.

“Consequently, on Friday, April 19, 2024, at about 11.00 a.m, his two (2) junior sisters came to him with a telephone number sent by the suspect (Usman Rabi’u). Immediately,  he rushed out and met the suspect outside his house, where the suspect was arrested.

“During the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to having kidnapped and hid the victim in his residence situated at Kofar Marusa quarters, Katsina, with intent to collect ransom from the family, as he further mentioned one Shamsu Shuaibu, m, of Doro village as his accomplice. The victim has since been rescued unhurt and reunited with his family. The investigation is still ongoing.”

The police also  paraded four suspected pedophiles whose details were provided by the command’s spokesman  thus “The command has succeeded in arresting one Abdullahi Bara’u,’m’, aged 40 years old, of Riko village via Jibia Local Government Area Katsina State, a suspected notorious paedophile in connection with a case of suspected rape of his two (2)-year-old niece and step-daughter.

“Nemesis caught up with the suspect when a report on his criminal activities was received through the representatives of the International Human Rights Advocacy and Awareness Centre on the suspected rape of his niece.

“The fact of the case is that on April 3rd, 2024, at about 12 noon, the mother of the victim left the victim and her elder sister at home under the care of the suspect. The suspect took advantage of the situation and deceitfully sent the elder sister on a bogus errand while he lured and had unlawful knowledge of the victim.

“Subsequently, the suspect was arrested, and he confessed to the commission of the offence during the course of interrogation. The investigation is still ongoing.

“Also, the command has succeeded in arresting the duo of one Lawal Saadu,’m’, aged 35 years old, and one Shamsu Saadu,’m’, aged 30 years old, all of Tandama Village in Danja Local Government Area , Katsina State, in connection with a suspected case of rape.

“On April 10th, 2024, at about 6 p.m, one Aisha Abdul, ‘f’, of Tandama Village in Danja Local Government Area , reported at the Danja Divisional Police Headquarters that on April 9th, 2024, at about 11 p.m, one Lawal Saadu,’m’, aged 35 years, who happened to be her brother, criminally trespassed into her room where he met her 8-year-old daughter (name withheld), and criminally had unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor girl.

“Consequently, during the course of the investigation, it was also revealed that one Shamsu Saadu,’m’, aged 30 years old, of the same address, had at different times deceitfully had unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim several times.

“Promptly, operatives were dispatched, and both suspects were successfully arrested. During the course of interrogation, both suspects confessed to the commission of the offence. The investigation is ongoing.

“On April 16, 2024, at about 6 p.m, the command succeeded in arresting one Atiku Moh’d, m, age 55, in Kaura village, Jibia Local Government Area, in connection with a suspected case of rape of a minor.

“Nemesis caught up with the suspect when a report of his nefarious activity was received through the victim’s father, one Tijjani Moh’d, m, of the same address. On April 15, 2024, at about 1200 hrs, the victim (name withheld), ten (10) years old, while on an errand, was accosted by the suspect, where he lured her into his farm and had unlawful knowledge of the girl.

“During the course of the investigation, the suspect was arrested, and he confessed to the commission of the offence. The victim was rushed to General Hospital Jibia for medical attention and was treated and discharged. The investigation is still ongoing.”

Also paraded were two suspected somodists.

Asp Aliyu  gave the details of their arrest thus” On April 13, 2024, at about 7.30 p.m, the command succeeded in arresting one Yusuf Samaila,’m’, aged 55, of No Test Quarters in Dandume, Dandume Local Government Area  of the state, in connection with a suspected case of unnatural offence against a 15-year-old boy.

“One Sa’adu Adamu,’m’, of Layin Mai kwano quarters in Dandume LGA, reported at Dandume Divisional Police Headquarters against the suspect (Yusuf Samaila), that on the same date, at about 4.30 p.m , the suspect deceived and lured one of his male students (name withheld), aged 15 years old, of the same address, into the sitting room of his house situated at No Test Quarters in Dandume, Dandume LGA, and had unlawful knowledge of the boy.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives promptly swung into action and succeeded in arresting the suspect. During the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence. Suspects will soon be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

“Consequently, on April 17, 2024, at about 4.30 p.m, the command succeeded in arresting one Malam Adamu Yusuf, m., age 60, of Layin Tafasa quarters, Danbatta Local Government Area , Kano State, in connection with a suspected case of sodomy against a 16-year-old teenager.

 “A report was received at the Kankara Divisional headquarters through one Abubakar Habibu,’m”, aged 22 years of Nasarawa quarters via Kankara LGA, that on April 16, 2024, at about 10.30 p.m,, the suspect (Malam Adamu Yusuf) criminally lured his younger brother (name withheld), aged 16 years of the same address, into an uncompleted building belonging to the mother of the victim located at Tudun Boka quarters via Kankara LGA, and had unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim. The victim was caught in the act by the victim’s mother, who raised alarm, and the suspect was immediately arrested.

“During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect has had unlawful canal knowledge of the victim on several occasions. The investigation is still ongoing.”

The Command also announced the bursting of a syndicate of motorcycle snatchers and the recovery of exhibits.

The Command’s spokesman explained “On April 1, 2023, at about 9 p.m,, acting on a tip-off, operatives attached to Bakori Divisional Police Headquarters succeeded in bursting a syndicate of notorious motorcycle snatchers, arresting three (3) members of the syndicate (1) one Usman Yahaya, m, age 33 years old, (2) one Sama’ila Muhammad, m, age 30 years old all of behind emir’s palace quarters, Bauchi state, and (3) one Muhammad Usman, m, age 30 years old of Mangu in Plateau State, and recovered one (1) Peugeot 406, ash in color, operational vehicle of the syndicate, and one (1) suspected stolen bajaj motorcycle.

“The fact of the case is on the same date at about 6 p.m, the above mentioned suspects criminally conspired with one Danfo, m, of Kano state now at large and drug one Saminu Rabi’u an unsuspecting commercial motorcycle rider and robbed him off his motorcycle valued at about six hundred thousand naira (₦600,000.00k).

“Upon receipt of the report, promptly, detectives swung into action and succeeded in bursting the syndicate. During the course of the investigation, all the suspects confessed to snatched several motorcycles within funtua zone and further mentioned one (1) Muhammad, m, of Dutse in Jigawa state, (2) Abubakar, m, all of Dutse in Jigawa State, and (3) one Ibro, m, of Mange in Plateau state, and (4) one Alkasim, m, of Gombe state, as the receivers of the suspected stolen items. Investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting the fleeing suspects.”
