Katsina police foil cattle rustling, kill 2 bandits, recover exhibits

Operatives of the Katsina police command in collaboration  with other security operatives, early Wednesday morning foiled attempts by bandits to rustle cattle in kankara local government area, killing two bandits and recovered some exhibits in the process. 

Spokesman for the command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the development on Wednesday. 

He said the police operatives along with their other security operatives, swooped on the bandits while planning to rustle cattle at Gidan- Boka village, Yargoje ward, Kankara Local Government Area  on Wednesday morning. 

Aliyu explained ” Today, Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at about 7.00 a.m, the command, in synergy with members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) and local vigilante, has succeeded in foiling an attempted cattle rustling, at Gidan-Boka village, Yargoje ward, Kankara LGA, Katsina State.

“Following a tip-off, operatives attached to the Kankara divisional police headquarters tracked the movement of some suspected armed bandits with suspected rustled animals to a point at Gidan-Boka forest in Yargoje ward, Kankara Local Government Area.

“The operatives, led by the DPO, engaged the suspected bandits in a fierce gun duel, resulting in the neutralisation of two (2) suspected armed bandits.

“In the course of scanning the scene, one (1) Ak 47 rifle with five (5) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, one (1) operational motorcycle belonging to the bandits, and thirty-four (34) suspected rustled cows, were recovered from the scene.

“Investigation is currently ongoing with a view to identifying and arresting the fleeing suspects.”

The Command  spokesman said the state Police Commissioner, Aliyu Abubakar Musa,  commended the bravery and professionalism displayed by the operatives. 

He added ” While urging the good people of the state to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police divisional headquarters for timely and decisive action, he also appreciates their cooperation and support, which is crucial in the ongoing fight against crime and criminality in the state.”
