One person has been confirmed dead and three others injured on Saturday when members of the Civilian Joint Task Force clashed with some repentant bandits in Kankara Local Government Area.
The spokesman for the state police Command, DSP Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the development in a statement.
The spokesman debunked the rumours that bandits operated in the council on Saturday as contained in the social media.
Aliyu explained what really transpired in the council on Saturday, assuring that normalcy had since returned to the area.
He explained ” The Command is aware of a report making rounds on social media suggesting that suspected armed bandits shooting sporadically raided Tuge village, Kankara LGA, Katsina, shooting and injuring several villagers. This report is inaccurate.
” Preliminary investigation into the matter revealed that today, Saturday, January 17th, 2026, at about 0935 hrs, suspected members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) from Tugen Na-Alma village, Malumfashi LGA, went to Tuge Mai Zuri village, Musawa LGA, Katsina State, to get essentials, where they encountered some suspected repentant armed bandits who are natives of the village.
“The atmosphere became heated; a gun duel ensued between the two (2) parties, as a result of which 4 bystanders were injured by stray bullets, as all parties fled the scene before the arrival of police operatives.
“Upon receipt of the report, police operatives from Malumfashi and Musawa Divisions were quickly mobilised to the scene, and normalcy was restored.
“The injured victims were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention.
” Unfortunately, one of the injured victims was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty, while 3 of the injured are currently responding to treatment.”
The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, Bello Shehu, has expressed condolences to the families of the victims and condemned the unfortunate incident, as he further directed a thorough investigation into the matter to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident at Tuge village.
The Command Spokesman revealed that investigation was ongoing, assuring that further development will be communicated in due course.
